Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams (also known as Dreams, I Saw a Dream Like This, or Such Dreams I Have Dreamed) is a 1990 magical realism film based on actual dreams of the film’s director, Akira Kurosawa at different stages of his life. The film is based more on imagery than on dialogue.

Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People, also known as Matango, Fungus of Terror, is a 1963 tokusatsu eiga (Japanese “special effects film”). It was directed by IshirÅ Honda, written by Takeshi Kimura based on the story “The Voice in the Night” by William Hope Hodgson, and had special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. The movie has developed something of a cult audience over the years; partly due to its bleakness and unusual themes, particularly when compared to other Japanese films of the same period. Destroy All Monsters is a 1968 daikaiju eiga (Monster Movie). The ninth in Toho Studios’ Godzilla series, it was directed by Ishiro Honda with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya and Sadamasa Arikawa. The film features 11 monsters: Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Rodan, Gorosaurus, Anguirus, Kumonga, Manda, Minilla, Baragon, and Varan. Read more…
